PLAYWORK

Playwork

What Is Playwork?

Playwork is an approach to working with children in which children decide and lead the content and intent of their play, rather than it being led or directed. At Tots & Juniors we provide plenty of resources, equipment and play opportunities for all children to then freely choose, lead and extend.

All activities put on stem from the children’s interests and whilst planned options are in action, it is the Playworkers role to act as a play advocate, creating appropriate space, ensuring accessibility for all and meeting each child's individual needs. There should always be opportunities for the children to build on self esteem, self awareness and self respect, in order to support mental health and wellbeing.

The Playwork Principles

The specific act of affecting the whole environment with the deliberate intention of improving opportunities for play.
